The Objectives of the Motorists' Action Group (MAG)  were formalised
and lodged with the Dept. of Fair Trading in March 1997
:

  1. to support an organisation that promotes the interests of consumers, motorists, road users, pedestrians and the community generally throughout Australia, in roads, transport, insurance and related matters, safety, and consumer and environmental protection.
     
  2. to support an organisation that provides consumers, motorists, road users, pedestrians and the community generally throughout Australia with a range of services pursuant  to Objective 1 above.
     
  3. to support organisations, including the NRMA, which have as their prime objectives those outlined above and are organised as mutual associations of members and to oppose the demutualisation of those organisations, including the NRMA.
     
  4. to act as a motorists' advocacy agency that advances the interests of consumers, motorists, road users, pedestrians and the community generally throughout Australia. m relation to roads, transport, insurance and related matters, safety, and consumer and environmental protection.
     
  5. to secure representation for consumers, motorists, road users, pedestrians and the community generally throughout Australia, in relation to roads and transport, insurance and related matters, safety and consumer and environmental protection, upon bodies, whether corporate or non-corporate, concerned with those matters.
     
  6. to do all things necessary for, or incidental to, the attainment of these objectives.
